Seaside Design is a design studio located in North Devon and run by Helen Blackman. With a First Class honours degree in Design Management, Helen fuses business skills with creativity. Having worked in communications and design for the past 15 years, Helen has a proven track record in delivering innovative solutions to clients that exceeds their expectations.
We've worked on projects for Random House, BP, Douwe Egberts, Premier Foods, Broomhill Art Hotel and many other businesses and charities.
Our greatest achievement is helping set up and lead the Wave Project in North Devon. This is where we used our communication skills to rally 100's of volunteers to support 100's of vulnerable young people over 7 years.
We were awarded ‘Surf volunteer of the year’ at the UK Surf Awards and The Prime Minister's Points of Light award for our work. But the biggest reward was seeing lots of positive progress in the children we had the pleasure to work with!
This season required us to wear many hats as project co-ordinators. Not only did we have to raise money to run the project, we had to run events and train volunteers.
During this season we honed our leadership, team work, marketing, fundraising and interpersonal skills.
"Your legacy with the project goes beyond what you achieved in North Devon itself - considerable though that is. You have helped make surfing as therapy possible everywhere." Joe Taylor, Founder of The Wave Project
When I'm not busy thinking up ideas I'm probably with my kids. I love being a mum of two and teaching them how to draw, paint and currently make clothes for barbies!
When I find a free moment I like to run, cook, go camping and try my best to grow things at the allotment.
As our name suggests, we are situated close to the sea and love being in it!
Random facts...
I love coffee, Christmas, playing in the snow, sea pinks and the colour teal. I used to be a dive master in the Caribbean. I've swum with a whale shark and worked in communications in Ecuador. I served teas and coffees on the UK Pro Surf Tour and met Kate and Will on a beach in Cornwall.
Helen's husband Joel is a highly skilled and creative craftsman working with architects to bring the most inspiring builds to life.
From award-winning, luxury tree houses, bespoke kitchens and extensions to hand crafted furniture or commercial premises, the theme throughout is high quality build and finishes.
